As a remote, off-road community, the Native Village of Tyonek experiences high energy costs. In 2016, TTCD worked with the Native Village of Tyonek, Alaska Forum Inc, Tyonek Native Corporation, and other partners to install energy efficiency measures in the Tyonek Tribal Center. This included installing installation film on windows to reduce heat loss and heating costs and installing high efficiency lighting to reduce electricity costs. For these and other efforts, Tyonek was awarded the Green-Star Community Award in 2017.

In 2017, TTCD began working with the Native Village of Tyonek, Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium, US Department of Energy, and other partners to develop an energy audit for multiple community use buildings in Tyonek. Through the results of this audit, TTCD and partners will be better able to address energy issues in Tyonek.
